HOW TO HELP YOUR FAMILY

Alzheimer's disease can be stressful and confusing and can affect each family member differently. As the caregiver or family member of a person who has Alzheimer's disease, you will likely face many challenges, both in adjusting to a new role and in coping with the profound changes in a loved one. You are going to need support, whether it be emotional, legal, or financial.

Knowing what to expect can help you cope better:

  • Visit your local library or bookstore to find books about Alzheimer's disease and about coping as a caregiver
  • Learn how to speak with others about Alzheimer’s disease
  • Get involved with local organizations and support programs that serve the Alzheimer's community in your area
  • Learn about programs and services available in your community, and take advantage of them
  • Understand your financial and legal needs
